About

Speakeasy is a student-run, alternative Web magazine serving the Ohio University campus in Athens, Ohio. We have a staff of 50+ from the E.W. Scripps School of Journalism, Scripps College of Communication and other majors on OU’s campus. Our staff members are writers, editors, copy editors, photographers, multimedia producers, graphic designers and bloggers. We update our site several times each day.

As of May 2009, Speakeasy took on a new look and the publication gained an all-around makeover to better suit its audience. For previously published articles not found on this incarnation of Speakeasy, please consult the archives housed on our old site. Since the spring of 2005, Speakeasy has provided the greater Athens community with thoughtful, alternative coverage that captures OU’s campus culture.

For feedback about the new site or general inquires, please feel free to contact Speakeasy’s Managing Editor at speakeasyeditor@gmail.com.

Please note our comment policy: We pre-moderate comments on all stories. Comments that feature excessive foul language, offensive slurs (i.e., sexist, racial, etc.), off-topic ranting, and blatant solicitations to personal blogs will not be approved.
