While some students on Ohio University’s campus were standing on the corners of Court Street begging passers-by to vote for their party, others were waiting in line at the many places set up for them to vote for their favorite candidate.

The primary elections were held on March 4, 2008. This was an important moment for many OU students. It was some students’ first time voting for a presidential candidate, voting at all or both.

In the end, the Democrats took the lead and had fewer than 1,200 votes between them. Clinton beat Obama 7,019 votes to 5,978 votes. The Republican Party lagged far behind in Athens County with McCain earning 1,821 votes and Huckabee gaining a mere 950 votes.

Real Clear Politics shows that currently Obama is leading the election and Clinton is close behind in Ohio. It looks as though the Democrats will once again take office.
