After almost two months of taking its position on Court Street, Chipotle is still highly populated, especially during student feeding hours.
While the line at Chipotle has started to move faster as workers get the hang of burrito wrapping, the line hardly grows shorter. On April 3, 2008, during its opening day Chipotle gave away a record breaking 7,085 free burritos.
To some, Chipotle’s opening was a glorious day that will forever feed their addiction. To others, it was a threat to those local businesses they have grown to love. But thanks to local support, Chipotle has not done much damage to local business.
Whether the coming of Chipotle was thanks to “OU for Chipotle,” a Facebook group pleading with the company to bring its burrito fillings to the streets of Athens or just an intelligent decision by a corporate businessman, it is a coming that will change the eating habits of many for years to come.
