The Ohio University Sierra Student Coalition will be hosting their second annual Mountainfest Oct. 2 and 4. Mountainfest is meant to raise awareness about the harms of mountaintop removal, which is a destructive form of coal mining. The event includes many activities, with the first being a panel discussion entitled “The Effects of Mountaintop Removal” featuring Larry Gibson and Danny Chiotos. It will take place at 7 p.m., Oct. 2 in Bentley Hall, Room 124.

On Saturday, Oct. 4, Mountainfest will move outside to the Howard Hall Site from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. This event includes live music, vegan cooking, films, information tables and arts and crafts. Later that night, from 8 p.m. until 2 a.m., Jackie O’s Pub will feature music by Sad Bastards, Mike Morningstar, Shankbone, Jesse Wilks and Pup the Rabbit, and food will be provided by Ed Fisher of Purple Chopsticks. All money raised will go toward mountaintop removal prevention.
