There are a few trash cans, ladders, drills, chainsaws, four men with incredible energy and even the kitchen sink. Get ready to be thrashed and trashed by Recycled Percussion on their “Man vs. Machine” tour, 9 p.m. Saturday at MemAud.
Recycled Percussion is a “junk rock” foursome that infuses hip-hop and classic rock by using recycled materials to create their instruments and unique sound. Brought to Ohio University by the University Programming Council, this show is something incredibly different from the usual Parent's Weekend festivities.
Jenna Markel, Special Events Co-Chair for UPC, is optimistic about the parent-friendly show this year.
“For the past three years we have had trouble with comedians coming to OU and offending parents," Markel said. "This year we wanted to bring something different that anyone can enjoy.”
Markel also said students and parents can expect a high-energy performance, complete with a light show and an unconventional beat to rival "Stomp."
Members Justin Spencer, Jim Magoon, Ryan Vezina and DJ Pharaoh are anything but junk. Spencer is titled as the “World’s Fastest Extreme Drummer,” and the band has opened for acts such as Godsmack, 311 and L.L. Cool J. And it all started with a high school talent show in Goffstown, N.H.
“Recycled Percussion is something really neat that’s never been on this campus before,” said Melissa Traylor, Special Events Vice-Chair for UPC. “It’s just a cool show that anyone can enjoy, with or without their parents.”
Catch the intensity at 9 p.m on Saturday at Templeton-Blackburn Memorial Auditorium. Tickets are $5 for students and $7 for the general public.
