Scorsese gets sinister with ‘Shutter Island’

Which is worse: to live as a monster, or die as a good man? In Martin Scorsese’s newest film, “Shutter Island,” which is based on the best-selling novel of the same name by Dennis Lehane, one man’s search for answers forces him to question everything and everyone he’s ever known, including himself.

‘StarStruck’ sure to strike big with tweens

“StarStruck,” which premiered on the Disney Channel Feb. 14, tells the classic tale of an uncool girl who falls for the most popular boy. It is a romance set in the world of pop stars, an increasingly common backdrop for Disney productions, and is laced with enough memorable music to have audiences watching it repeatedly just to learn the lyrics.

The CW prepares questionable new season

The CW announced five pilot pickups Tuesday, Feb. 2: “Betwixt,” “HMS,” “Hellcats,” “Nikita” and “The Wyoming Project.” While the network’s attempt to be known as something other than the former WB is overdue, a second book-based series, a remake and uninspired dramas may not be the wisest moves.

Flimsy adaptation makes ‘Lightning Thief’ a god-awful mess

Cringe-worthy dialogue and a blatant disregard for many key points in the novel on which it is based keep “Percy Jackson & the Olympians: The Lightning Thief” from even being a contender to take over the current reign of teenaged wizards and vampires.

Cinema Crazed: Pirates of the Caribbean 4 In The Works

The fourth installment to Pirates of the Caribbean is finally beginning to be produced. Rumors of a title and when the movie will be filmed have finally been confirmed. The title is ‘Pirates of the Caribbean:On Stranger Tides’ and the movie will be filming in Hawaii this summer. While I’m not sure if this will [...]

‘Lost’ returns with answers and more questions

After an eight-month wait, ABC’s sci-fi juggernaut “Lost” returned with a bang–literally, thanks to an exploding hydrogen bomb–and promised a final season heavy in alternate reality theories, spiritual mythology and new insights into the characters via “flash-sideways.”

‘Chuck’: Likability plus amped up action equals success?

While not the funniest or most enthralling show, “Chuck” has attempted to find its own little niche and satisfy the audience who dwells there. The comedy has struggled with ratings since the beginning, mostly because the spy chronicle does not seem to really have “it” – the “it” that spy-drama “Alias” and spy-comedy “Get Smart” both possessed.

‘Mother’ dances around pivotal information for the hundredth time

For five seasons, CBS’s screwball comedy “How I Met Your Mother” has offered laughs, heart, awesome guest stars, new holidays and legen … wait for it … dary pick-up lines. One thing “Mother” has not coughed up? The identity of the titular matriarch.

Cinema Crazed: Welcome to the futuristic world of ‘Avatar’

Over break, my cousin and I saw James Cameron’s newest film, “Avatar.” . Released in theaters Dec. 18, “Avatar”
has been a huge hit among viewers all across the nation.

‘The Road’ a tense and atmospheric ride

The apocalypse has been done countless times over in various works of fiction, but “The Road” offers a somewhat new and interesting twist to the end of the world.

Cinema Crazed: ‘The Blind Side’: The true story of Michael Oher

On Friday, Nov. 20, my floormates and I went to see a movie at the Athena Grand.

Cinema Crazed: Down in New Orleans, Disney’s ‘Princess and the Frog’

It is definitely the cutest princess movie that I have seen lately. Tiana, a waitress and aspiring chef who dreams of owning her own restaurant someday, believes in working hard and not waiting for Prince Charming to come around.

ABC Family’s ‘25 Days of Christmas’ Week Four: Angels, superheroes and miracles

After three weeks of stop-motion classics, cheesy movies with sub-level celebrities and a handful of fish-out-of-water Winnie the Pooh and Pixar specials, ABC Family rounds out the month of December with an interesting mix of programs during the finale of the “25 Days of Christmas.”

ABC Family’s ‘25 Days of Christmas’ Week Three: Cutesy kids, dancing penguins and the Governator

In an effort to save the real Christmas gems for the marathon’s finale next week, ABC Family put rather weak offerings on the plate for round three of the “25 Days of Christmas.”

‘Twilight’ is a film for fans of the book

People who are not fans of Stephanie Meyer’s “Twilight” series may not enjoy the “Twilight” movie. The dialogue is horrendous, the effects are cheesy and the score is simply the same song over and over again with only slight variations. Viewers who can get past the hokey, melodramatic dialogue, may find there is something indescribably addicting to this film.
