The Kennedy Museum of Art features local faculty

Varying from whimsical to deviant, the current exhibitions at the Kennedy Museum take their spectators on a viewing roller coaster. In addition to the permanent collection, the historic Kennedy Museum currently features two intensely contrasting exhibitions: “The Necessary Friction of the Machine” by sculptor Dan Price and the “School of Art Faculty Exhibition.”



Lost Flamingos motivate themselves

When spoken, the words, “Lost Flamingo Company”, would most likely be the cause for confusion. However, this company of theater-loving students should be the cause for a round of applause. And no, they don’t spend their time in search of flamingos. In fact, this entirely student-run organization is a theater group known for putting on spectacular performances during fall and spring quarters.



Got wood? Dairy Barn exhibit features woodworking artists

From tables to teapots,the contemporary woodworks the exhibit “Far Side of Function” are certainly worth a look. Located at the Dairy Barn Arts Center, this timbered art show is taking place throughout October and November and features a fantastical array of arranged and carved wooden pieces.

Located in a bustling brothel, “The Hostage”, written by Brendan Behan, follows an eclectic cast of prostitutes, war heroes, and an assortment of other eccentric characters. These unique personalities combine to create a vivid comedy.

In Baker Center, tucked behind the escalators piled with people ascending to classes, there lies a hidden diamond in the rough of history. Appearing abandoned, the tiny room with white and black art may not catch the eye, but another look can prove enlightening.



Appalachian trailer park secrets revealed in 'Strike!'

The greed, comedy and romance of a one-act opera

The Ohio University School of Opera will tell a tale of family squabbles, unwanted romance and a charismatic “trickster” in this weekend’s performance of Puccini’s one-act play, “Gianni Schicchi.”

Written by Giacomo Puccini and directed by professors Richard Crist and Steven Huang, “Gianni Schicchi” is based on the well-known “Dante’s Inferno.” The setting is in an elaborate bedchamber in Florence in 1299, when a wealthy aristocrat named Buoso Donati, played by Peter Jarjisian, has just passed away on his deathbed. Stricken with grief, the family members of Donati surround his bedside, wiping away tears and kneeling in prayer.
