    MAC Tournament preview

Regular season play in the Mid-American Conference this season has been as unpredictable as any other in the rich history of the league. Shocking upsets (Northern Illinois over Central Michigan) were the norm and kept fans on their toes all season long. With the conference tournament starting today, every team has convinced itself that it can win it all.

Bobcats cruise, KVK honored

His mom still calls him Kenneth, but the rest of us know him simply as KVK.

Kenneth van Kempen and his Ohio Bobcat teammates enjoyed a victory in their final regular season game and KVK’s last home contest, defeating the Bowling Green Falcons 82-60 in front of the 6,792 fans who filled the Convocation Center on Senior Night.

Two sides: the One-Year Rule

The NBA’s “One-Year Rule” insists that players be one year out of high school before entering the NBA Draft, causing an influx of “one-and-done” players in college basketball. The NBA has improved itself, but was it at the NCAA’s expense?

Lady Bobcats avenge loss to rival

After losing to the Miami RedHawks 66-58 in Oxford earlier in the season, the Ohio women’s basketball team exacted a measure of revenge in front of a home crowd at the Convo, earning an impressive 69-56 victory.

Freeman buries Miami with game-winning shot

Tommy Freeman was very blunt about his game-winning shot.

Bench propels Bobcats to BracketBuster victory

Seeing as the bench has struggled all season long, the ‘Cats (15-13, 5-8 MAC) looked as if they would struggle just to stay in the game; however, the bench came through in a big way, outscoring the starters 44-20 and the Raiders’ bench 44-6 to lead the Bobcats to a 64-59 victory at their ESPNU BracketBuster game.

Two sides: are the Olympics good for the NHL?

The two-week Olympic break for the National Hockey League means a jumbling of the schedule, players risking injury for their countries and no All-Star game. But is it worth it for the NHL?

The up-and-down season of DeVaughn Washington and the Ohio Bobcats took a positive turn Thursday night in front of 4,051 fans at the Convocation Center. The mercurial forward scored 24 points complete with a few of his highlight reel finishes in Ohio’s 89-76 victory over the Chippewas of Central Michigan.

Ohio rides hot start to top WMU

Coming off a disappointing road trip in which they lost to Eastern Michigan and needed overtime to beat 3-21 Toledo, the Ohio Bobcats (13-11, 4-6 MAC) finally played 60 full minutes, toppling Western Michigan 90-74.

Lady Bobcats’ struggles continue

Even a sea of pink couldn’t help the Lady Bobcats. With the Ohio women’s basketball team (and crowd) wearing pink to honor breast cancer on Saturday, the ‘Cats were unable to overcome a deep Toledo Rockets team, losing 76-54.

Bobcats outshot but not outscored

After a mid-season stretch in which they won 15 consecutive games, the third-ranked Ohio Bobcats had won just three of their past nine games before hosting a two-game series with the fifth-ranked Cyclones of Iowa State.

Speakeasy NFL picks- The Super Bowl

And then there were two. The biggest game of the season is not only the last until next September, but also the sweet end to a brutal postseason’s worth of picks for Speakeasy Sports.

Bobcats lose OT thriller

After shooting 57 percent from the field in the first half, the Ohio Bobcats looked to cruise to their third straight victory. Ball State had other ideas, storming back in the second half and overtime to upend the ‘Cats, 67-66.

Two sides: expanding the NCAA Tourney

It happens every year: a “bubble” team is outraged because they were snubbed for the NCAA Tournament. Virginia Tech head coach Seth Greenberg said last year that anyone who thought his Hokies didn’t belong was “clinically insane.” Should the NCAA switch to a 96-team tournament?

Bobcats outduel Golden Grizzlies

A third period scoring outburst was the difference in Ohio’s 3-1 victory over Oakland in front of a standing room only crowd at Bird Arena Saturday night. The win ended a four-game losing skid for the Bobcats, who are now 26-7 on the year.
