Talking hockey with Coach Dan Morris

Ohio University’s men’s hockey team has had a great season thus far. As of Nov. 19, the Bobcats are 17-2 and are on an eight-game winning streak. Much of the Bobcats’ success can be attributed to Head Coach Dan Morris. Speakeasy sat down with Morris to find the reason for his team’s success and, of course, to talk some hockey.

Hayden Johnston didn’t really have a choice. Playing collegiate sports was in his blood. Both his father and older brother played football in college, so when Johnston decided to come to Ohio University to play baseball about four years ago, he was not exactly moving through uncharted waters.

You know you picture a blonde girl with pom-poms and a ponytail belting out a “rah, rah, rah!” cheer when you think of a cheerleader. The first cheerleader who belted out this cheer was a man. And so is Ohio University cheerleader Anthony Diglia.

At the basketball game on Saturday, Jan. 24, the guys on the floor sweating to beat Bowling Green weren’t the only talented athletes present. Ohio University’s co-ed cheerleading squad could be seen displaying its athletic abilities, including flipping, jumping, bending and, of course, cheering.
